Independent Study 12

Today is the last class of our current four-class set. The phrase of the week is, "kick things up a notch." This means to increase energy or make something more intense. For example, "This workout is too easy, let's kick it up a notch."

Today's reading is about IPO's, initial public offerings, in Korea. Our listening material is another office dialogue. The vocabulary words will come from our reading. Please be able to describe them in class. 

Vocabulary

  • reignite- (verb) ignite or cause to ignite again.
  • prop- (noun) a pole or beam used as a support or to keep something in position, typically one that is not an integral part of the thing supported. OR a person or thing that is a major source of support or assistance. (verb) position something underneath (someone or something) for support. OR position (something or someone) more or less upright by leaning it against something else.
  • biosimilar- (noun) a biopharmaceutical drug designed to have active properties similar to one that has previously been licensed.
  • eclipse- (noun) an obscuring of the light from one celestial body by the passage of another between it and the observer or between it and its source of illumination. OR a loss of significance, power, or prominence in relation to another person or thing.
