Today is the seventh class of our current eight class set. We will begin a new case study today. I sent you an email with the introduction deck for DOINDIE. Here is the email I received.
SHORT BIO:
Patrick Connor is the co-founder DOINDIE. DOINDIE consists of a promotion/booking agency called Highjinkx (www.highjinkx.com) and an independent record label, Beeline Records (www.beelinerecords.com).
Through Highjinkx we run international shows and tours in Korea (and occasionally further afield in Asia) for both international and local Korean acts. To date, we have promoted shows for the likes of Joss Stone, Aurora, Mitski, Julien Baker, Hippo Campus, Coin, Suuns, Protomartyr, Adoy, Idiotape, Wedance, Airy, Silica Gel, DTSQ, and many many more. We also book artists for several festivals and events in Korea, including the Busan International Rock Festival (www.busanrockfestival.com). Through Highjinkx we also run a project called Focus Asia (that aims to introduce the best talent from around Asia to the Korean market) and a tour exchange project that so far has seen bands from the UK and Korea take part in extensive tour swaps over the last few years.
Beeline Records is an independent label/label services company through which we manage a local artist (Wedance and Soullette) and help several international acts with digital distribution and promotion of their releases in Korea. In short, we do a bit of everything.
Additionally, we also run a webzine (https://www.highjinkxmm.com) focused on promoting both international and local musicians to the Korean market.
QUESTION: What do you think is the best way to make the initial approach to Korean companies (with whom you do not have an existing relationship) when looking for sponsorships for festivals/live events? Oftentimes sending emails does not elicit any kind of response.
As a follow-up, are there any networking events where it is possible to meet companies that are looking to sponsor such events?
