Welcome to your first class. This period will be a short two-class set. Normally, we will have four classes in one period. The main purpose of this class is to make you a better leader of English discussions. You will have plenty of opportunities to do so. In this class you are expected to give and receive feedback from your peers, so be prepared.

We will start class with some introductions and small talk. Next, I will introduce our keywords exercise. This will be a continuous activity. You will be given a short reading in class and must share three keywords. This is a quick summarization and keyword identification exercise.

Following that, we will have our reading and discussion. We will keep these light to begin with and after the first two classes. I will select a student to lead the following week’s discussion. For this class, I will lead. This week our reading will be about retirement age.

Finally, We will end with our listening material. Again, in the future, this will be student-led, but for now, I will lead the listening discussion. Our listening material is about tech workers in Canada. I have included a transcript. Please read and listen to the material before we meet for class.
