Today is the last class of our current four-class set. We will start class with a speaking exercise. Our reading will focus on the companies of the 50 wealthiest people in Korea.
Forbes published a 2019 50 Wealthiest Koreans list. I want to look at the individuals and their companies. I think this will give you a better understanding of industry in Korea. Number 50 on the Forbes list is Lee Sang-il. He is worth $855 Million and is the chairman of Iljin Group.
Lee Sang-il chairs privately held Iljin, which began as a forging operation in 1973.
The company expanded into container and automobile-chassis components and then began supplying wheel bearings in 1994 to automakers worldwide.
Iljin has a network of R&D centers in Korea, the U.S., and Germany, which allows it to respond to customers around the clock.
For our listening material, we will go back to some NPR stories with transcripts. Listen carefully and ask your questions in class. We will start again with unit one in our grammar book.
