ERT Saturday Edition

Today is the second class of our new four-class set. We will begin with our editing exercise. Our grammar unit today is unit 134. 

Today's reading is about friendships between bosses and their employees. The vocabulary words will come from the reading. I will explain and discuss them in class. Our listening material is a nature video clip. Please listen for the keywords and phrases. 

Vocabulary

  • rapport - (noun) a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned understand each other's feelings or ideas and communicate well.
  • backfire - (verb) (of a plan or action) rebound adversely on the originator; have the opposite effect to what was intended.
  • inevitably - (adverb) as is certain to happen; unavoidably.
  • subordinate - (noun) a person under the authority or control of another within an organization (adj) lower in rank or position.

Key Words and Phrases

  • Wide-ranging- this means that the animals are capable of traveling great distances. 
  • Bountiful waters- there is a lot of life in the ocean, especially fish you can catch. 
  • Tight knight matriarchal pods- dolphins travel in pods. and matriarchal means that they are led by a female- similar to elephants.
  • Signature whistle- each dolphin has their own unique whistle. 
  • Curiosity is piqued- this means that something caught their attention.
