In Depth Discussion (Red 2)

Today is the second class in our current four-class set. We will begin class with a collocation exercise. Our reading today is about a mother and her son. The vocabulary words will come from our reading. Please be able to identify them in class. Our listening material will be Episode 5 Part 1. 

Vocabulary

  • individuation- (noun) Individuation is the process by which an individual becomes distinct. Individuation distinguishes you from everybody else.
  • rupture - (verb) (especially of a pipe, a vessel, or a bodily part such as an organ or membrane) break or burst suddenly. (noun) an instance of breaking or bursting suddenly and completely.
  • accede - (verb) assent or agree to a demand, request, or treaty.
  • retroactively- (adverb) with effect from a date in the past.

  • Gauntlet so thrown- Challenge received, challenge accepted
  • Giving the state the benefit of the doubt- believing the state, without proper evidence or strong evidence.
