Today is the last class in our current four-class set. The phrase of the week is, "truly killer app." Killer is a slang word we used to describe something great. For example, "I had some killer Mexican food last night."

Today's reading is about mobile phone trends and our listening material is an interview with Maile Carnegie of ANZ, an Australian bank. The vocabulary words will come from our reading. Please be able to describe them. For the listening material I want you to pay attention to when she speaks quickly and when she pauses. 

Vocabulary

• conceive- (verb) become pregnant with (a child). OR form or devise (a plan or idea) in the mind.
• emulate- (verb) match or surpass (a person or achievement), typically by imitation. OR imitate 
• mundane - (adj) lacking interest or excitement; dull.
• squander- (verb) waste (something, especially money or time) in a reckless and foolish manner.

Why would you leave Google to come to a bank, a bank like ANZ? That’s a great question because Google is a wonderful company and I really loved my time there and actually I wasn’t actively looking to leave. But, you know I've had some wonderful conversations with people on the board, people like Shane; and as I was having those conversations there’s, there is so much passion to change the bank; to really digitally transform the bank and I just really enjoyed the direction that people wanted to take it; and it was just a wonderful conversation and there's a lot of commitment. And I was just really excited about the vision that people like Shane have for where they want to go; and I think the things that really helped seal the deal for me and one of them was that as I started thinking about it, you know, I, I love the idea that I can really anchor my career back in Australia.
