In Depth Discussion

Today is the last class in our current four-class set. We will begin class with our Latin root words.

The phrase of the week is, "to what end?" This is an older way of saying, for what purpose? For example, "I know I should study Korean, but to what end?" Many people also use it as a stand-alone phrase.

The reading this week is about another moronic internet challenge and our listening material is an interview with Elijah Wood. Please listen for and be able to describe the vocabulary words.

Vocabulary

  • grounded- (adj) well balanced and sensible.
  • humility- (noun) a modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness.
  • excrement- (noun) waste matter discharged from the bowels; feces.
  • mite- (noun) a minute arachnid that has four pairs of legs when adult, related to the ticks. Many kinds live in the soil and a number are parasitic on plants or animals.
