Today is the first day of our current four-class set. We will begin with our Latin root words. Our grammar unit today is unit 109.

The phrase of the week is, "dabbled in." We use this phrase to describe having experienced something. For example, "I have dabbled in web development, but I am far from being an expert."

Today's reading is about the growing popularity of podcasts. Our listening material is a segment from an interview with the founder of Vuzelaa. We are going to take a look at some different accents. Our vocabulary words will come from the reading, please be able to describe the vocabulary words. 

Vocabulary

  • innovation- (noun) a new method, idea, product, etc.
  • traction- (noun) the extent to which a product, idea, etc., gains popularity or acceptance. OR the grip of a tire on a road or a wheel on a rail.
  • content- (noun) information made available by a website or other electronic medium. (adj) in a state of peaceful happiness.
  • reiterate- (verb) say something again or a number of times, typically for emphasis or clarity.

I talked with Sahil Arora — Entrepreneur & Founder of Vuzelaa. Sahil is a 17 year old entrepreneur who raised $40,000 while still at school!.

Vuzelaa is an iPhone app which uses retina recognition for logging into social media and other cool stuff. I talk about the highs & lows of being an entrepreneur.

We discuss the future of social networking. How he manages a team of 14 staff & pitching a VC during at school break. It’s full of practical advice , useful ideas for anyone building an app with no design or coding knowledge.
