Independent Study 10

Today is the last class in our current four class set.

The phrases of the week are, "the backend," and "the frontend." We will use the words in terms of software development.

When we discuss the “frontend” of the web, what we’re really talking about is the part of the web that you can see and interact with. The frontend usually consists of two parts: the web design and front end web development.

The "backend" usually consists of three parts: a server, an application, and a database. If you book a flight or buy concert tickets, you usually open a website and interact with the frontend. Once you’ve entered that information, the application stores it in a database that was created on a server.

Our reading is about fin-tech, a term that was new to me. Our listening material is by Korean TV Producer Nah YungSuk. I believe he gave the speech recently at the Cannes Film Festival. I know it is long, but I think there are many things we can discuss. Please choose one point that impressed you and be prepared to discuss it in class. There are no vocabulary words this week!
