In Depth Discussion (Red 2)

          Today is the first class of our current four class set. It is also the the last four week set before our 추석 holiday. ERT will be closed from September 21st through October 3rd. 

          This week our listening and our reading material will coincide. They are both about a novel turned film called, The Dinner. How far would you go to protect your loved ones?

Idioms

  • "over one's head"- beyond one's understanding. Ex. The professor was speaking over our heads. None of us could understand him.
  • "add fuel to the fire"-to make a bad situation worse; to do or say something that causes more trouble, makes someone angrier. Ex. I was already angry with you, and when you forgot to pick me up that really added fuel to the fire.
  • "tongue in cheek"- if you say something as a joke, although it appears to be serious. Ex. He said he was the greatest in the world, although I suspect it was tongue in cheek.
  • "stick your neck out"- to take a bold or dangerous risk; to expose yourself to criticism. Ex. You shouldn't have to be the only one to complain. Why should you have to stick your neck out?
