In Depth Discussion (Red 1)

Today is the third class of our current four class set. We will start to work with some dialogues and practice our delivery. So, we will use a dialogue as our reading material. In class we will recite and deliver the lines, so please practice out loud at home! This week's dialogue is about doing on a diet, not that it applies to any of you!

Our listening material is short, artistic, and a little difficult to understand. What is the speaker trying to tell us? Listening to different accents is an important skill. Especially if you are a world traveler. As always, please prepare your sentences for each idiom, and try to use the vocabulary words during our discussion.

Idioms

  • "worse comes to worse"- If nothing else works, your final option. Ex. Nobody wants to cook? Worse comes to worse we can always order a pizza
  • "look on the bright side"- Be optimistic Ex. I heard you lost your job. Hey, but look on the bright side, now you can pursue your dream.
  • "beside the point"- not important or irrelevant. Ex. A. I am sorry I had to cancel dinner. B. That is beside the point, it was my Birthday!
  • "can't stand"- can't tolerate Ex. I can't stand it when people throw trash on the ground.
